Titleist Ultralight Golf Bag Top Collar
Titleist asked ELEVEN to investigate concepts to reduce weight in their existing golf bag assemblies by using 21st century manufacturing technology and materials to create an ultralight golf bag concept. We used Grasshopper to design parts for DMLS aluminum 3D printing and combined them with formed titanium wire and deep sea braided fishing line to shave grams off of the existing design.

We stripped down the components of an existing reference Titleist golf bag to benchmark dimensions and weights, with the goal of reducing weight and improving golf bag performance. During the design process, we explored different manufacturing techniques and materials, ultimately landing on DMLS aluminum 3D printing as the most promising process to reduce weight and improve strength.
Designed in Grasshopper using parametric plugins such as Cocoon, Weaverbird, and Lunchbox, we created an exterior diamond lattice shape which we filled in with an interior lattice to minimize material weight. We left material solid where strength, touchpoints, or mounting areas for hardware was needed.
